David De Gea all smiles with Matteo Darmian ahead of Chelsea v Man Utd

The Manchester United pair are ready for their trip to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon

David De Gea was all smiles with Matteo Darmian as the Manchester United duo prepared for their crunch Premier League trip to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils pair both featured for Jose Mourinho’s men on Thursday night as United ran out 4-1 winners over Fenerbahce in the Europa League at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is now preparing to return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his sacking by Chelsea back in December of last year.
United are aiming to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of consecutive Premier League draws against Stoke City and Liverpool in recent weeks.
And De Gea used his personal Instagram account to snap a picture with his team-mate and issue a rallying cry ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
De Gea posted the picture above on the app and wrote: “Good game yesterday! Totally focused on Sunday!
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season before Louis van Gall was sacked and replaced by Mourinho back in May.

Manchester United Target “Hell-Bent” On Leaving Current Club

With just days left in this incredible transfer window, Manchester United could yet bring in one more new face as Jose Mourinho assembles a title-winning squad.
Monaco right-back Fabinho has been the subject of interest all summer from the Special One and the deal finally appears to be picking up some pace.
France Football, a reliable source for such news, claims the defender has reached an agreement with the club to leave once the side have secured Champions League qualification. They face Villareal in the second leg of their tie tonight with the principality team 2-1 up from the first meeting.
The report also claims:
The player remains hell-bent on a move to the Premier League and he is still expected to get that wish before the window shuts.
“Manchester United remain well-positioned, Fabinho remains an absolute priority of José Mourinho, but are not the only Premier League side in the mix.”
With concerns over Matteo Darmian’s ability, an addition at right-back is certainly needed. However, it begs the question, why can’t Timothy Fosu-Mensah be the man to deputise for the resurgent Antonio Valencia. The young Dutchman burst onto the scene last year with a string of massively impressive performances. His importance for the team was best highlighted by the fact that after he was inexplicably hooked away to Spurs, the team conceded three goals in the next eight minutes.
Would Jose Mourinho not consider the talented young star in favour of spending yet more money?
No, of course not.

Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Andre Gomes and Matteo Darmian Rumours

Valencia are reportedly already considering replacements for midfielder Andre Gomes, with Barcelona strongly linked with the Portugal international.
Sport noted Los Che have decided this summer is the right time to cash in on the midfielder. While “various clubs” have reportedly made their interest known in Gomes, the Blaugrana are “showing the most conviction,” as they feel the elegant playmaker would be an ideal fit for their squad.
“For this reason, Valencia are on the move in searching for a replacement, and according to the English press, they have pinpointedJuan Mata as a target,” Sport added.
Gomes does align well with the Barcelona blueprint. Here is a look at what he’d bring to the Camp Nou:
During his time at the Mestalla, the 22-year-old has excelled. While Valencia didn’t enjoy a prosperous 2015-16, the Portuguese provided a few bright spots. His running with the ball, close control and ability to pick a pass make him a treat to watch, and he's capable of cutting defences open at his best.
Gomes has been very impressive with Valencia.
Given his technical quality and versatility—Gomes can play in a variety of midfield positions and on the flanks—it’d be no surprise to see Barca make a move for him. However, Grup 14's Sergi Dominguez is unsure whether the team needs him:
Indeed, with Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta, Arda Turan, Sergi Roberto and Rafinha, Barcelona do have a lot of quality in the attacking-midfield positions. A move would see Gomes go from being a vital player in Valencia to on the periphery at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona will always be an enticing destination, especially for a young footballer who plays the game in Gomes’ style. However, a transfer to a different side, where he will have more stature in the squad, would be better for the Valencia man at this stage in his career; Barcelona need to address other areas of the squad before they pursue another creative midfielder too.

Matteo Darmian Linked

One position the club needs to bolster is right-back, and according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Jamie Styles of the Daily Star), Manchester United man Matteo Darmian is top of Barcelona's shortlist for the role.
It’s suggested there are four targets for the full-back position after Dani Alves joined Juventus: Borussia Monchengladbach’s Fabian Johnson, Wendell from Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan’s Mattia De Sciglio and the United defender. Darmian’s versatility—he's able to play on the left or the right flank—is said to have impressed Barca.
In his debut campaign with the Red Devils, the Italy international was a solid but unspectacular presence. Sports journalist Liam Canning would like to see Darmian stay at the club to work under new manager Jose Mourinho:

Replacing Alves will be difficult. Although Aleix Vidal has impressed in bursts and Roberto has shone when given a chance in the role, the Brazilian, even in the twilight of his career, is one of a kind. His energy, quality on the ball and ability to perfectly time his surges forward were a hallmark of Barca’s dominance.
Darmian isn’t the same kind of player. While he is always willing to raid forward, his best attributes are defensive ones, such as his ability to shut down wide players, track runners and cover for centre-backs. He’s a handy full-back and a useful option to have in a squad. But for the way Barcelona play, there are better fits available.

Matteo Darmian looks relaxed despite the uncertainty around his Manchester Unitedfuture.

Matteo Darmian looked to be fully relaxed as he posed for a selfie with his girlfriend ahead of Euro 2016.

The defender’s future has been a source of speculation in recent days following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Manchester United’s new manager.
Darmian was a regular fixture in the Manchester United first-team last season after joining the club from Torino as one of Louis van Gaal’s summer recruits.
However, the Italy international’s future beyond the summer appears to be unclear, with some reports in the media claiming that Mourinho could be willing to show Darmian the exit at Old Trafford after just one season at the club.
Some reports have also suggested that Mourinho is prepared to offload Darmian as part of a swap deal to bring Paul Pogba to Old Trafford from Juventus this summer.
However, the defender looked relaxed with his girlfriend Francesca Cormanni as he prepared to jet off to report for international duty ahead of Euro 2016.

Paul Pogba to Manchester United: Jose Mourinho willing to include Matteo Darmian as part of deal in signing Juventus star

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is willing to sanction Matteo Darmian's sale in the summer transfer window and use the versatile defender as a part of the deal in helping the Red Devils re-sign Paul Pogba. He left Old Trafford and joined Juventus in 2012 as a free agent and has gone to become one of the highly rated midfielders across Europe.
Louis van Gaal signed the Italian international from Torino for £12m ($17.1m) and had a good start to his Old Trafford career. However, injuries and a dip in form has seen him being linked with a move away from the club.
According to The Sun, the Dutchman's successor is keen on landing Pogba and is open to sacrificing Darmian if it can help them land the France international. The Turin club made an inquiry over the availability of the full-back as they are looking to bring in a player in that position.
Juventus have Stephan Lichtsteiner as their first choice right-back in the squad. Their former manager Antonio Conte is keen on taking him to his new club Chelsea and that has seen the Serie A winners find a replacement for their defender.
Darmian can be the direct replacement for Lichtsteiner, should they manage to land him. United are willing to do business and include him as a part of the swap deal that will allow them to sign Pogba.
The Red Devils made a £60m ($85.5m) bid for the midfielder in bringing their former player back to England. However, United's approach was turned down by the Old Lady and Mourinho, who is an admirer of the Frenchman, is keen on completing a move for Pogba.
Juventus could be willing to allow their prized asset leave and they have already identified Miralem Pjanic as his replacement. The Roma star is edging closer towards completing his switch to Turin.
The Independent reports the former Chelsea manager has made signing Pogba his top priority this summer as he wants to build the team around him. La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in securing his signature and United are ready to fend off interest from Spanish clubs.
United will be made to wait to complete the marquee signing. Pogba is on international duty with France at the ongoing Euro 2016 and his future will be decided after the tournament in his homeland.
"You tell me. I'm asking you. Really? I'm thinking about the match to come. Then there's the Euros, and after that the holidays," Pogba told EPSN.

Matteo Darmian hoping for bright future at Manchester United

Matteo Darmian hoping for bright future at Manchester United
Matteo Darmian believes he is capable of succeeding at Manchester United following a difficult first season at Old Trafford.
Darmian has been in and out of the side at Man United this term due to injury and dips in form.
His situation has been compared to that of Patrice Evra, who suffered a similar baptism of fire at United before going on to become a club icon. Former Torino full-back Darmian admitted that he will be looking to do much better in he future.
“I think for a player it’s always difficult to change the culture and also to change the football because the Premier League is different from Serie A,” Darmian said.
“It’s more physical and less tactical, all of the teams play stronger, but I try to adapt to this type of game and this type of football. Yes, at the beginning my football was very good but sometimes it can happen, a period when we aren’t so good physically. Now, I’m focused on the end of the season, and that’s it.
“I think it can be hard, and we try to adapt quickly. It’s true what you say about Patrice Evra and I look forward to doing better.”
Darmian was superb at the start of the campaign but the Italian wasn’t helped by the numerous injuries United suffered in defence as the season progressed.
It meant Darmian was often switched around the back four and it was hard for him to establish any sort of consistency. There is undoubtedly a good player in Darmian but he will need to become more reliable ahead of his second season at the club.

DARMIAN KEEN TO FACE ITALIAN FRIEND OGBONNA

Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian looks ahead to Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup quarter-final and seeing a familiar face in the West Ham United squad…
How important is to bounce back from the defeat at Liverpool when Sunday’s cup tie comes around? We know the FA Cup is an important trophy for us. We want to win it. We have to do better and win the game, that’s the most important thing.
A win on Sunday would definitely be a big lift to everyone…Yes a win would give us the confidence to look forward. We are focused on that – we want to play against West Ham and win.
How much did you know about the FA Cup before you came to England?I knew it was a very important trophy. The FA Cup always has big atmospheres and anything can happen in the matches.
What have you made of the matches we’ve played so far and the atmospheres in the games?Every game has been difficult but we have done well. Now we play against West Ham, another difficult match. They are in good form but we have to be focused and try to win. We are playing at Old Trafford in front of our own fans which is good for us.
How much would you relish the chance to play at Wembley in the semi-finals and hopefully a final?I have never played at Wembley so I hope I have the chance to play there.
What have you made of West Ham in recent weeks?I think they are a good team. They’re organised and play well. But if we are focused and play like we know we can and what we showed a few weeks ago I think we have a big chance to beat them.
They will have a familiar face in their squad - your former club colleague and international team-mate Angelo Ogbonna…[Smiles] Yes, he is my friend. I played with him at Torino so off the pitch we are friends but on the pitch we are rivals!
How did it feel to play against him in the 0-0 draw between the sides in December? It was a difficult match, 0-0 at home, so we want to improve and beat West Ham. It was nice to see Angelo and he has told me he is very happy to play for West Ham, just like I am very happy to be at United.
He’s only scored one goal for West Ham but that was a big one - the winner against Liverpool in the last round to set up Sunday’s match…Yes, I spoke to him and texted him to say well done because it was his first goal and a very important one. But now it’s about us winning and getting to the next round.
What would it mean to you to win the FA Cup this season with United? It would be fantastic. I think for us it’s a great chance to win an important trophy. That is our focus.
There are big games every week at this stage of the season – how much is everyone relishing that challenge?Every game is difficult, but we are Manchester United and we have to win as many games as possible. That is what we are trying to do and hopefully we can get the victory on Sunday.
